Practical answers
for the journey in front of you.
SimpleTrip depends on your device, permissions, and the Apple services you choose to enable. These answers reflect the current App project and keep optional or planned capabilities clearly identified.
BEFORE CONTACTING SUPPORT
A few details help us diagnose the issue faster.
If the guidance below does not resolve the problem, include enough context to reproduce it without sending unnecessary personal information.
Please include- Device model, operating-system version, and SimpleTrip version or build
- What you expected, what happened, and the exact steps that led to it
- Whether local or optional iCloud storage was active, including any status message shown
- A redacted screenshot or screen recording only when it is genuinely useful
Do not email passwords, payment-card details, government identifiers, API keys, or unnecessary trip names, locations, budgets, photos, or contact information.
Frequently asked questions
AvailabilityCan I download SimpleTrip or join the beta today?
SimpleTrip is coming soon and is not yet publicly available in the App Store. The current internal beta is invitation-only; invited testers receive access and installation instructions directly.
This website does not provide an unofficial download, public TestFlight link, or release date. Confirmed availability updates will be published in the changelog.
CompatibilityWhich devices and operating-system versions does SimpleTrip support?
The project includes adaptive interfaces for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, together with an Apple Watch app and Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Watch widgets. The Xcode project currently uses a shared minimum deployment target of 26.2 across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and visionOS.
visionOS currently represents project and platform coverage, not a finished, purpose-built spatial experience. Feature availability can also vary by device, permission state, region, system service, and App build.
Data & accountsDo I need an account, and where is my trip data stored?
Core trip planning does not require an account managed by the developer. By default, SimpleTrip stores trips, dates, places, notes, budgets, expenses, selected photos, and related settings locally using SwiftData and Apple App Group storage where the main App and its extensions need to work together.
Limited itinerary snapshots are prepared for widgets and Apple Watch. Local storage does not mean that every copy is a backup; protect the device and Apple ID, and verify any export before relying on it.
iCloudHow does optional iCloud storage work, and why might my devices not match?
CloudKit storage is off by default. It can be used only in a correctly configured build, after you explicitly enable it, confirm any required local-data migration, and restart SimpleTrip when prompted. When active, the App uses a private CloudKit database associated with your iCloud account.
On each device, check that you are signed in to the intended Apple ID, the App reports iCloud storage as active rather than local fallback, network access is available, and the relevant data has had time to propagate. Apple service availability and background delivery can delay updates, so synchronization is not guaranteed to be immediate or real time.
- Do not delete the local trip merely because another device has not updated yet.
- Changing the storage switch does not itself erase data already stored in iCloud.
- If the build reports that iCloud is unavailable or not configured, continue using local storage and include the exact status message in a support request.
MapsHow do place search and directions work on different devices?
iPad, Mac, and the place picker provide text search. The compact iPhone map does not contain inline text search, but you can tap map points of interest to discover a place and add it quickly. Manual place entry remains available when search is unsuitable.
SimpleTrip displays maps and selected places, then hands the destination to Apple Maps when you request directions. It does not draw turn-by-turn routes inside the App; route content, availability, and navigation are handled by Apple Maps.
LocationWhy are current location, distance order, or walking estimates unavailable?
Those features require the relevant system location permission. On supported mobile devices, SimpleTrip asks for location while you use the feature. You can review access in System Settings under Privacy & Security and Location Services.
If access is denied, you can still create and edit trips, enter places manually, and view saved itineraries. SimpleTrip does not require continuous background location tracking to provide its core planning features.
Trip progressWhere can I mark a stop visited or skip it?
The main App records visit status and calculates progress for the selected date. Existing Watch, Widget, and Siri entry points can surface the next stop, and supported actions can mark a place visited.
Skipping is deliberately narrower: it is available in Today Route on Apple Watch and in select Home Screen widgets. Do not expect a skip action in every App, Watch, Widget, or Siri surface; Siri does not currently skip places.
Watch, widgets & SiriWhat should I do if Apple Watch, a widget, or Siri shows old information?
Open the main App once before the trip so it can publish the latest itinerary summary, then confirm that the intended trip and date are current. For Apple Watch, keep the paired iPhone nearby long enough for an initial exchange, or use optional iCloud storage only when it is available and enabled on the relevant devices.
Widgets, Siri results, notifications, and Apple Watch updates are delivered through Apple system services and can be delayed or stale. Reopen the relevant App or system surface and confirm important itinerary details in the main App before relying on them.
SpotlightWhy do my trips and places not appear in Spotlight?
Spotlight indexing is off by default. Enable it from the Siri and Shortcuts guide in SimpleTrip if you want trip and place names to appear in system search. Turning it off causes SimpleTrip to clear the entities it previously submitted to the Spotlight index.
Indexing and search results are managed by Apple system services, so changes may not appear immediately. Keep sensitive trip or place names out of Spotlight if they should not be visible through system search on the device.
ExportsWhat can I export, and is an export a complete backup?
You can export a complete itinerary or a single day as PNG, PDF, or Markdown and choose supported content such as itinerary, notes, visit status, budget summary, and expense details. Current itinerary exports do not include photos from the gallery.
An exported file is an independent copy, not a live backup. Review it before saving or sharing it. Later edits or deletions in SimpleTrip do not update or remove copies already stored in Files, Photos, a cloud drive, another app, a message, or a recipient’s device.
PhotosWhat photo access does SimpleTrip use?
SimpleTrip uses Apple’s system photo picker for trip covers, gallery images, an avatar, or a profile background. It processes only images you choose rather than browsing or importing the full photo library.
Selected images are resized and re-encoded into App-ready copies; the current processing path does not preserve the source image’s EXIF, GPS, or IPTC metadata. These copies follow the storage mode you select, but they remain separate from current itinerary exports.
Deletion & recoveryCan I recover a trip after deleting it?
Trip deletion is confirmed as a destructive action in the App and should be treated as irreversible. If optional CloudKit storage is active, a deletion may also propagate through the private database. SimpleTrip does not currently provide a developer-operated account or recycle bin, and support has no access to retrieve or restore the deleted trip.
Files you previously exported remain separate and are not deleted with the trip, but they may be incomplete and current itinerary exports exclude photos. Deleting the App or turning off iCloud storage also does not necessarily remove copies held by iCloud, device backups, external services, or recipients.
AI roadmapCan SimpleTrip generate or revise an itinerary with AI today?
No. SimpleTrip does not currently generate or revise itineraries with AI. AI itinerary drafts, conversational refinement, schema validation, user confirmation, and travel-journal generation belong to the next phase of the product roadmap.
Before any remote AI capability is enabled, the project requires explicit controls for schema validation, user approval, prompt-injection risk, credentials, and outbound data. The current website does not represent those features as launched or available.
